Scholarly Publishing
Scholarly Publishing and Copyright
OSU faculty should be aware that they may be relinquishing their copyright in works they have produced and own when they sign agreements with publishers or other companies. In some cases, this can include giving up the right to use the work in future educational and research endeavors. Information on scholarly publishing rights and sample agreements for retaining certain rights can be found at the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) website, and in the SPARC Scholarly Communication Toolkit. The Creative Commons website also provides information on ways to provide open access to faculty-owned publications while still allowing faculty to retain some rights. For information on other open access and publishing initiatives, as well as the NIH Public Access Policy, see Current Issues in Scientific Publishing on this website.
