Gifts and Donations

Home > About the Library > Forms > Gifts and Donations

The Library welcomes your material and cash contributions.  Before making any donations, please contact Lynda Hartel, Collection Development & Resource Management Librarian at hartel.642@osu.edu or (614) 292-4892 or David MacCartney, Monograph Specialist, at maccartney.1@osu.edu or (614) 292-0930.

A copy of the Library’s Gift Agreement Form should accompany your material donations.

Books, anatomical models, and multimedia:    These items are generally accepted.  Items not needed for the Prior Health Sciences Library will be donated to other libraries, donated to organizations sending materials to areas of need, or sent to our re-sale partner Better World Books.  Through our work with Better World Books, the Library and The National Center for Family Literacy, earn a percentage of net sales.  Library earnings are used to buy new materials for the collection.

Journals:  Journals are generally NOT accepted unless needed to fill in gaps or replace missing or damaged issues.  Prior to any donation of journals, a description of the collection including titles and volumes (or years) must be sent to Lynda or Dave for review.

Financial Donations: You can help build a new collection or support on-going Library operations through cash donations.  Contributions may be designated to purchase particular materials for the Library.  To discuss giving opportunities, contact Mark Notestine at OSU Medical Center Development, (614) 292-5671.

These guidelines apply to donations of materials dated 1960-current.  Potential donors of older materials should contact staff in the Medical Heritage Center.
