What happened to OSCAR?

Home > About the Library > Departments > Circulation Services > What happened to OSCAR?

OSCAR (Ohio State Catalog for Automated Retrieval) is the name that refers to the The Ohio State University Libraries (OSUL) online library catalog.

In early 2004 OSUL began discussing a move from the phrase OSCAR to simply Library Catalog. The phrase OSCAR means little to new library users while the phrase Library Catalog is self explanatory. When redesigning the Prior Library's web site the decision was made to adopt the more generic "library catalog" terminology. While this change may be initially confusing we expect our customers to pick it up pretty quickly.

The online OSU Library Catalog/OSCAR itself is unchanged.
