Databases

CINAHL : Provides access to nursing and allied health information from 1982 to the present.  Over one thousand journals are indexed in the CINAHL database.

Eric : The ERIC database contains abstracts of documents and journal articles on education research and practice. The ERIC database encompasses both Current Index to Journals in Education (CIJE), which announces journal articles, and Resources in Education (RIE), which announces documents, including reports, papers, guides, and books.

Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) : Designed for use by clinicians, researchers, and students who wish to base clinical decisions on accumulated evidence from the primary medical literature. Includes the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews; and Best Evidence from the American College of Physicians and the BMJ Publishing Group. Contains links to full-text documents and to MEDLINE citations.

PsychInfo : Contains citations and summaries of journal articles, book chapters, books, dissertations, and technical reports in the field of psychology and the psychological aspects of related disciplines. Useful for occupational therapists interested in rehabilitation for patients with psychological and psychiatric disorders.

    • American Occupational Therapy Association : Advances the quality, availability, use, and support of occupational therapy through standard-setting, advocacy, education, and research on behalf of its members and the public.
    Style Guides
    • APA Style Guide for Electronic References Use to cite information found in electronic format.
    • APA Style Form Guide Use to correctly cite common formats of information such as journal articles and books.

      Note: If the information to help correctly cite information sources is not not in these guides, don't guess!  Consult the print Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, in the Health Sciences Library's reference collection (BF76.7 P83 2001).

    • OTseeker : Contains abstracts of systematic reviews and randomised controlled trials relevant to occupational therapy. OTseeker provides you with fast and easy access to trials from a wide range of sources.
    • The Model Project : Developed by faculty and staff of the School of Allied Medical Professions at OSU, this is a resource for preventive practices for persons with disabilities or at risk for disabilities. Contains links to databases for information searching related to allied health practices and to information on use of evidence based practice in allied health.
