Course Reserves Policy
- Faculty supplied reserve materials are limited to:
- single articles or chapters; a few charts, graphs or illustrations; or other small parts of a work
- a small part of the materials required for the course
- copies of materials that a faculty member or the library already possesses legally (i.e., by purchase, license, fair use, interlibrary loan, etc.).
- Electronic and print reserve copies should each contain:
- any copyright notice on the original
- appropriate citations and attributions to the source
- Explain access to students enrolled in the class and administrative staff as needed.
- electronic: students access reserve materials via Carmen.
- print (e.g. hard copy books): students need title and call number
- Each instructor must ensure that permission to use material has been obtained from the copyright owner or that the use falls under an educational or fair use exception to the copyright law. Copyright permission must be obtained each term for materials that will be used repeatedly by the same instructor for the same class. The Health Sciences Copyright Management Office will assist instructors in obtaining copyright permission to use materials.
- Link to material found in an online version, such as electronic journals, electronic texts, or material on a website, rather than making a pdf or copying material into electronic reserves. Linking to electronic material that OSU licenses or to web-based material eliminates copyright concerns.
- Any material may be placed on reserve unless restricted by Prior Health Sciences Library space limitations or policies. Place materials on reserve by using the reserve request form at http://library.med.ohio-state.edu/2920.cfm
- Library staff will terminate access at the end of the class term.
