Known Electronic Resource Problems

Off Campus Access to Electronic Resources If you are having problems with access to electronic resources from off campus, take a look at our Accessing Databases and Electronic Journals from Off Campus help page. If you still need help, fill out the problem report form.
Oxford Journals Available in the OhioLINK EJC Oxford University Press online journals are now available in the OhioLINK EJC and are no longer available at Highwire as if 4/2/04. If you have bookmarked these journals at their Highwire URLs, search the library catalog for the new links and update your bookmarks accordingly.
Online : Serials Solutions Journals - Health and Wellness Resource Center We do have access to those journals with links that say “Connect to Full text from Health and Wellness Resource Center.” When the link is clicked on, a search page is opened up rather than a list of journal contents. To find the actual journal content, the best thing to do is an advanced search. When you click on advanced search, you will have the option of searching by the Source title (Journal name) along with article titles, keywords and other options. If you know the article title and the journal name, you will get the best results. By searching for the journal name alone, you will get a list of articles grouped by issue with the most current issue first.
OSU Only Electronic Journals At various times during the year, some of our local electronic journals will display a message stating that the subscription has expired. Please complete the online problem report form when you see these messages. This usually had to do with changes in the publisher policy regarding pricing and your report form will alert us to these issues.
MD Consult There is extra-heavy use of the system so you may see the "All licenses in use" message pop up when you try to access this resource. Our license allows for eight users at one time. We are also investigating problems associated with logging out of the personal edition. Some users log off their machine and then are blocked from using the database at another machine. Two tips: 1) Make sure you click on the Exit (generic edition) or Log Off (personal edition) buttons when you are finished using the system. If you simply use your browser back button or close the browser, there *could* be a delay in getting logged back in the system. This is especially true during the day because of the limited number of simultaneous user seats. 2) Make sure you do not double-click on the (personal edition) Log On button. Clicking once gets you in but clicking twice logs you off the system.
Gaps and Lags in Ejournal Content: Under the OhioLINK EJC licenses, publishers are obligated to provide us ongoing and current articles. These licenses require publishers to provide us with issues as soon as they are available. When this works correctly, we should never be more than a day or two behind the publisher's web site. In reality, there are times when there are missing issues and lags. This is particularly a problem with titles published by Springer-Verlag. OhioLINK staff are currently working with publishers on solutions to these problems. OhioLINK software detects missing issues. You do not need to report missing issues to us. Unfortunately, we are not able to predict when any specific issue will be available. If you need a missing issue immediately you should check print holdings or contact Library staff for assistance in locating the title directly through the publisher or through alternate sources. Titles published by Springer are often the biggest problem--especially with missing content. As of 11/02 OhioLINK continues to work with Springer as well as other EJC publishers to form a more complete collection.
With the addition of new databases from EBSCO (such as Academic Search Premier, Health Source, etc), you will want to make sure you are NOT using Internet Explorer 5.0. The full-text pages will not display or download and your system will go through a series of problems when you try to view full-text with this browser. Newer versions of IE work just fine. Also, do not use your browser's BACK button when searching the EBSCO databases--use the EBSCO-provided back or return buttons. As of 11/02
No "Retrieve full text" Link but You Know the Title is Available Online: This happens occasionally. Your best option is to search by title in OSCAR and link to the full-text from there. The e-journal could be available locally if not through OhioLINK.
No Article Full Text link on issue table of contents. List shows links for Article Description, but not for full text. Journals from several publishers (such as American Chemical Society) are displayed this way in the EJC. Click Article Description for desired article. From there, click Article Full Text to retrieve the text. Make sure you have your browser set up to accept cookies.
Poor Image or Print Quality: Some earlier issues of titles published by Elsevier were supplied in low quality form. If you need better quality images, you will be better served by using the print journal.
PDF Full Text is Missing but Reads DONE: Click the BACK button and try the link again. If that doesn't work, make sure you are using Acrobat version 5.0 or higher and try it again.
At home Using AOL Version 6 or 7: AOL has a built-in, customized version of Internet Explorer that will not work with the OSU proxy. When you first install AOL you are asked a series of installation questions. How you answer these can permanently impair or eliminate the ability to run any browser other than AOL's. Important: Do not install the Internet Explorer (IE) browser which comes with AOL. You must download and use a fresh version of IE instead. This does not interfere with your AOL connection, it just installs an alternative browser to AOL's default browser.
