The library appreciates your assistance in reducing wasteful printing in our facilities. Below are some tips. If you have any additional questions, other suggestions for improving printing, or if you need help with any of these suggestions, don't hesitate to ask one of our staff members.
General Tips:
- Please do not change any of the printer settings.
- Select "Print Preview" under the File menu before you print to make sure that you are not printing blank pages or excess parts of the document that you do not need.
- Print duplex (double sided) from any software application.
- Make sure that there is truly a need for every single page that you print.
- Find out if you can turn your assignments in via E-mail or another form of electronic submission. It is faster and saves a lot of paper.
Reducing Printing from a Web Browser:
- Print on both sides of a sheet of paper.
- Increase the number of pages that print per sheet by changing the layout settings or print multiple PowerPoint slides per page.
- Save the Web page to a disk. In addition to allowing you to take the page with you, it will also allow you to edit the page if you wish.
- Simply write down a URL. Then you can look it up again if you need it. That way, if the page changes, you will see the updated version.
- Reduce the font size on the page you are printing.
- Scroll through the document to get a feel for how long it is. You can view a preview of the web page if you select "Print Preview" under the File menu. Then you will know exactly how many pages are going to print. You can choose which pages to print in the print dialog box under the print range options. Only print the ones that are absolutely needed.
- If you only need the text and not the pictures, you can save the page as a text file and open it in Notepad. Or if it is only a small section that you need, you can highlight the information and copy it. Then, simply paste it into a Notepad document. Fit the most you can on a single page by reducing the image, margin, or font size, or increase the number of pages that print per sheet by changing the layout. You can print up to 16 document pages on on single side of a sheet of paper. NOTE: Please close the browser after printing to reset the page layout to "1".
